It was an early morning today,NAND I slept very warmly under the blankets, so the room temperature actually wasn't a bother. I was so tired from the night before that I knocked out, nothing was going to get in my way. Breakfast was as usual from what I notice in Europe, deli, cheese, and bread. This morning we went on a 6km hike that took about three hours. The view were breathtaking and supposedly were formed 5 million years ago, or something to that effect. There used to be a sea that inhabited the area, and as the sea level dropped, the rocks formed. The hike took approximately 3 hours and really wasn't too bad until we hit a never ending series of stairs. You can bet my knees were definately yelling at me, and actually still are. The hike itself reminded me of the Women's Pilgrimage trail in Japan. This whole place makes me wonder how it came about and used the castle before.
Part of me was really excited about the hike, and after a while, with my out of shape body, I was just wondering when the trail would end. By the time we got back to the castle, I was ready for a chair. We had a brief break before lunch, and I pretty much fell asleep as soon as I closed my eyes. It only last two minutes, and then we went to lunch. Already, we've come to expect great soup during every meal. Today's soup was like an egg drop soup. For lunch we had a chicken leg with mashed potatoes. It was delicious. And then the real fun began.
We went back to the location where we had icebreakers yesterday and found a completely different setup. Helmets, harnesses, and this time....the ropes! I was the first to rapel down the rock and it was the scariest but most liberating experience. Unfortunately I have no pictures documenting my experience, but it was awesome! Then we had the option to zip line in combination with a high rope bridge. The zip lining was fun, but very short. This whole trip reminds me a lot of the Costa Rica trip during junior year in high school and now that I think about it, it's interesting that I am doing something similar in the third year in a school sequence.
Then there it was. The high rope bridge. I was soo excited to walk across it. On the bus ride over we watched Man on Wire and I have to say, that man was crazy, but amazingly talented. I finally got to the beginning of that rope, and took a deep breathe. Here I go! This is going to be awesome. I took three steps, and whoa, I really wished the end would just come. You are suspended over forty meters in the air and the only thing in between you and the floor in a rope. I took each step carefully, making sure my weight was distributed evenly, the whole thing took so much concentration. I only focused on the rope below me that I didn't notice the distance below. Looking forward didn't help to mitigate the fear, so I slowly and steadily made my way over to the other side. The bridge seemed to be never ending. It was an amazing experience, but definately not something I could do more than once today.
The final part of the day was a candlelit scavenger hunt. It was pretty fun, but alas, I lost and was too slow.
Now, I am exhausted and ready for bed after some good stretching.
Until tomorrow!
