I just posted an update from two weeks ago and a lot has happened since then. But for now, I will update on the day that I've had since its been so eventful and it's fresh in my head.
Today is the first day of our long study tour. Our destination is Sweden and Finland and will be traveling for about five days. What I'm really excited about is getting to see all the amazing architecture that I studied about last yrs in person. In my head I told myself, "hey you have to go there someday" and here I am, doing just that, and I didn't even have to plan it myself.
We were to meet at the airport at 630 in the morning. That was not fun and just made me really tired for the rest of the day, but alas, I'm not alone. I got there and somehow took a while to figure out how to print my boarding pass. I usually don't have trouble traveling but today just seemed to be an odd day. I dropped off my bags and headed for the gate. Ging through security, I did the usual of removing what I should have from my bags, but walking through the sensor, it beeped any way. I was patted down for the first time. Not a completely awful experience, but nonetheless new. Then as if that wasn't enough, I was "selected" to be randomly screened. I think that it was just something looked funny that was in my jackets and they needed to check up on it. But anyway that was that. We had a bit of time before the plane started boarding so I got a parfait for breakfast and sat down to eat. As I finished, someone walked up to me to ask if would answer a few questions for a survey. I obliged. Odd thing is, I was also targeted to take a survey on the train too, not today. But I feel like I have stamp on my head that says, will not say no if you ask to take survey. I don't know if it's because I look foreign or what.
At any rate, the flight was really short and I slept most of the way. The first stop of course is Sweden, we're going to be here for about three days. While the plane was landing, I opened my eyes as the wheels of the plane touched the ground,to my surprise the view was spectacular! Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined to see such a thing in real life. All the trees were frosted over and created a gradient in the foliage. Some white, some green, and some in between. Haha, I made a rhyme. Anyway, Sweden is a completely different animal from Denmark. The streets are bigger, and there are definately not as many bikes, and things seem cheaper...but not a lot. There are also noticeably more Asian restaurants, maybe I can my Asian food fix here before I leave.
We took the train into the city after we dropped our belongings off at the hostel. Walking up to it reminded me a lot of Boston. Oh how I miss Boston! The T sign is exactly the same, and the smell was exactly the same. And they are still somewhat on a manual system. It was very oddly reminiscent.
As this an academic trip, I have to draw in my journal when we go around to different places, I am totally and completely not good at this. There are some really beautiful ones I've seen, and just don't understand how people can make them so nicely.
After a long day of walking all around the city, we went to dinner as a group. DIS always takes care of the meals rlly well on trips, so I know I will definately be eating well this week. We had authentic Swedish meatballs today and it ended with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate. Yummy. It didn't seem like much, but it was a perfect portion. During this dinner, I finally found another kdrama fan. Yay me! Everyone was tired, so most of us headed back to the hostel for the night.
This should be it for the night, I will post pictures later. Thanks for reading!
